LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The Staten Island FerryHawks' offense is hot! Third baseman Jack Elliot is hot.
After scoring seven runs in a loss on Tuesday, the FerryHawks came right back and put up nine runs in a Wednesday afternoon 9-7 Atlantic League win over the Counter Clocks on the road as Elliot clubbed two homers, his seventh and eighth of the season.
The FerryHawks (14-25) jumped all over Lexington starting pitcher Yeudi Garcia in the top of the first, when Elliot opened the scoring, followed by another solo homer from shortstop Angel Anguilar, his third of the season. Tottenville HS product Kevin Krause added another run, scoring on a throwing error and the FerryHawks took a 3-0 lead in the first.
Staten Island would add to that lead in the top of the second when Elliot launched a two-run home run. Delbinson Romero followed with another two-run home run to left field, giving Staten Island an 8-2 lead.
Staten Island added another run in the fifth, and that's all the scoring they would need, although Lexington (19-22) made things interesting with a three-run fifth and a two-run seventh.
Staten Island starter Ivan Pineyro (2-1) picked up the win, scattering five runs over five innings.
FerryHawks closer Pedro Payano pitched a scoreless ninth inning, picking up his fifth save of the year.
