On Saturday, Staten Island lost a tough 1-0 rain-shortened contest against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. The Hawks ran into a Blue Crabs buzzsaw in the form of 6-foot-6 right-hander by the name of Jared Burch. Burch stymied the FerryHawks for six innings, giving up only three hits while striking out four and walking one. The Blue Crabs got all the offense they would need in the third inning when Fox Semones scored on a Jack Sundburg groundout. Rain was throughout and the FerryHawks had runners on second and third with one out in the top of the seventh when a rain delay was called and eventually the game was called, preserving the 1-0 Blue Crabs' win.
Newcomer Blake Loubier got the start for The FerryHawks in this one. The 22-year old Florida native has an impressive debut with a final line of 5 innings, 5 hits, 1 run, 1 walk, and 3 strikeouts. While dominant, the effort ended in a no-decision as Mother Nature was not on Staten Island's side. The game ended after 6 innings of play due to rain making it an official game.
