STATEN ISLAND, NY– Hector Guance earned his first Atlantic League victory Tuesday at SIUH Community Park, striking out eight Blue Crabs en route to a 4-1 victory. The win is Staten Island's first in seven tries against league-leading Southern Maryland, snapping the Blue Crabs eight-game winning streak. 
 
In his second start of the season – both against the Blue Crabs – Guance (1-0) tossed six strong innings, allowing just four hits and one run. The lone tally scored on a second-inning double by Zach Collier, earning Southern Maryland the game's first run. 
 
Eddie Butler (4-2) opposed Guance for the second time in six days, allowing four runs across seven innings. The FerryHawks had just one hit against Butler through three innings, but rallied for three runs in the fourth inning.
 
Stephen Alemais catalyzed the fourth-inning rally with a leadoff single, before stealing second base. Angel Aguilar's double off the right-field fence put runners on the corners for Dilson Herrera. The FerryHawks first baseman blooped one to the right side of the infield, beating Butler to the bag for an infield single to tie the game at 1-1. Staten Island got a fourth consecutive batter on base with a Ricardo Cespedes RBI double to the right-field wall, scoring Aguilar for a 2-1 advantage. An Andres Noriega groundout, would plate Herrera for a 3-1 lead. 
 
Antoine Duplantis supplied the game's final run in the bottom of the fifth with his first Atlantic League home run. His solo blast cleared the right-field fence and extended the lead to 4-1.
 
Alex Katz and Williams Ramirez were lights out on Tuesday night, blanking the Blue Crabs over the final three innings. Katz whiffed two in a scoreless seventh, while Ramirez struck out four on his way to a six-out save.
