STATEN ISLAND, NEW YORK- General Manager Gary Perone and the Staten Island FerryHawks organization announced that their first professional signing in franchise history would be all of Staten Island's "little league" players. To draw kids closer to the game of baseball and instill a professional baseball frame of mind, the FerryHawks will offer players contracts during team registrations for a future chance of professional baseball.
Players will receive one "FerryHawk Fun Pass" (Single admission ticket) and a unique chance for their baseball future. The team will offer a chance to any little leaguer who signs up and develops into a professional baseball player later in their career. The FerryHawks want to aid in Staten Island baseball development and see their local players be a part of #HawkCity.
" Little League baseball has been woven into the fabric of the Staten Island community for years. It is where the love of the game and Big League Dreams begin. At least we know that we would like our home grown players to know if they ever make it to the pros and want to continue their career. We want to give them an opportunity to play where it all began." - General Manager, Gary Perone
"Little League baseball is where it all started for me, it's where I fell in love with the game. Over my 27 year playing career little league baseball holds some of my favorite memories. From friendships to moments, my time spent playing little league baseball has positively impacted my life. Our effort as an organization is to help rebuild the little league community, one charter at a time." - Baseball Operations Director, Eddie Medina
"As a young kid in Venezuela, I started playing baseball at the age of nine and fell in love with the passion of the game. Being a kid from Venezuela, I didn't have the opportunities that kids have these days, so whenever I have the chance to help kids take advantage of their potential, I jump at it. Baseball is such a great family activity that I want to help grow for years to come with the FerryHawks." - FerryHawk Manager, Edgardo Alfonzo
Kids and parents should be on the lookout for an organization representative at their team's local sign-up days to sign their first big league contract. The "FerryHawk Fun Pass" allows one entry to the little leaguer for any game of their choice during regular-season home games.
*"FerryHawk Fun Pass" does not include Opening Day, playoffs, and your chapter's little league take over night.
